Live Review : Arch Enemy + Amorphis + Eluveitie + Gatecreeper @ O2 Apollo, Manchester on October 31st 2025

It’s Halloween, the most metal day of the year, so it is only fitting that perennial metal troopers Arch Enemy have rocked up at the Apollo with a rather impressive battalion of supports in tow. Alissa proclaims that it is her favourite time of the year and she has gone all out to impress, besuited in luminous skull face paint. The audience itself is made up of a splattering of witches, ghouls and warlocks, though most have plumped for the rather benign fancy dress of middle-aged man in band t-shirt.

Live Review : Amorphis + Eluveitie + Dark Tranquility + Nailed To Obscurity @ O2 Ritz, Manchester on November 24th 2022

Fittingly for these austere times, this is a distinctly wallet-friendly four-band bonanza of a package tour. There are no fillers or loose ends here. Each artist is already an established force of nature with their own well-cultivated fan base. Whilst the Ritz is never heaving, there is a highly respectable amount of people packed into the place from the get-go. Nailed to Obscurity may have drawn the short straw in terms of start times (6 PM is rather early in most people's books) but they are rewarded with a highly enthusiastic reception and turnout.

It must be lousy to have a landmark birthday or anniversary in 2020. All those carefully laid plans scuppered by this bugger of a pandemic. This is exactly the situation that Amorphis find themselves in. This year is the 30th anniversary of their formation and they had grand designs of how to mark this momentous occasion. Sadly lockdowns and the fact that none of us are going anywhere quick has put paid to all of that. However, instead of being downhearted they have decided to jump on the live stream bandwagon and perform two special commemorative shows from their home town of Helsinki.
